In 1971, an employee at Herman Miller grabbed a "zebrawood" plywood sheet and pressed a 670 lounge chair with it. The bottom of the seat cushion is dated and signed Ken Lyon 1971. I am not sure if this is an employee or the custom orderer. The Eames 670 lounge was always offered only in Rosewood or Walnut and with custom leather colors. Custom veneers was never an option.

"Zebrawood" was an experimental cross cut veneer used on desks and credenzas designed by Peter Protzmann and were only offered from 1971-1972. The veneer proved to be too costly to make and wasn't well received at the time and was discontinued after 1972. The veneer has shown up on an occasional George nelson clock but never as a chair.

This Eames lounge 670 is a unicorn, it should not exist, is one of a kind, and will never be replicated. Make sure you jump at the opportunity to own this once in a lifetime offering. All cushions have been newly reupholstered in supple olive green leather. Accompanied with a period rosewood ottoman.
