1960s George Nakashima Mira Cherry chair with a fourth leg Nakashima studios
A solid cherry Mira chair in the manner of George Nakashima Studios. This chair came from a NJ estate loaded with Nakashima pieces. This one stood out to us, as the Mira side Chair designed by George Nakashima was never offered with four legs.
We contacted Mira, who now runs the Nakashima studios, who agreed the seat shape, materials, construction, glue, and hand shaped dowels were all signature characteristics of Georges studio work. However she was unable to locate an order card for the family.
The consensus after our conversation was, if it was a one off custom order it would have been in the card catalogue that was lost to rats, or it could have been a chair that one of the wood working employees made on their own time and took home.
Either way its a one of a kind, unique chair and a beautiful example of George Nakashima's timeless designs.
