A custom solid walnut dining table by Master wood worker Arthur Espenet Carpenter. The boat shaped top with rounded edges sits atop a heavy cast bronze X - shaped base with a solid walnut stretcher. A beautiful form and a true collectors piece from one of the great wood workers of the 20th century. Signed with carved “Espenet” on the bottom.
Self-taught, Arthur Espenet Carpenter II (1920-2006) was a master woodworker and furniture maker known for his wishbone chair and desk with scalloped seashell sides.
His work is in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution, Museum of Modern Art, and and LACMA in Los Angeles just to name a few. He was declared a “living California treasure” in 1984.

Condition: Lacquer finish showing some light scratches to the top. Some scratches to the bottom of the top form moving.
